At Christ Presbyterian Church in Minnesota, where LifeKeys originated, it's been common for over half the attendees to be from the community, not the church. Friends have told them about this course for exploring careers which, while faith-based, isn't preachy. Often, the church ends up with new members.
Today we heard that another 600,000 Americans lost their job in February. In response, Changing Church and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Burnsville, MN, have scheduled a LifeKeys event that we hope will reach out to many, many people affected by this economy. David Stark and Jane Kise, two of the LifeKeys authors, will lead the event. We've arranged for other trainers to join us so that more people can have individual questions answered during the workshop. Between support from local media outlets and organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce, we think that attendance could be in the hundreds.
Full details can be found at www.changingchurch.org. However, consider whether planning and delivering such an event might touch on the biggest felt needs in your community right now. We find that career counseling within a Christian setting allows people to go deeper than the monetary issues and tune into the thoughts of meaning, purpose and values that will truly make a difference for their futures.
